Today’s older adults expect a broad range of programs, services and educational opportunities. Primeplus Senior Center (formerly Norfolk Senior Center) classes and activities are designed to be responsive to the needs of the community and will change as the community changes, maintaining a focus on quality, cooperation and coordination.

Education

AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL)
Thursdays 12:15 - 1:00 p.m.

If you're interested in learning American Sign Language this is the perfect place to begin! Learn the primary rules of American Sign Language, practice conversations and vocabulary with clear illustrations, and develop the tools to begin to speak the language of many hearing-impaired Americans.

ART APPRECIATION
Shirley Confino-Rehder, award winning docent at the Muscarelle Museum at the College of William and Mary, will present a discussion of artists, history, theme and composition featuring existing collections and current exhibits from the Muscarelle Museum.   This presentation is part of an ongoing series.
 
ART HISTORY SERIES
This is a series of presentations which features various topics on artistic developments and influences around the world. Topics include: An overview of Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Roman Art, Early Christian Art, Medieval & Renaissance Art, and the Renaissance Period. Please register in advance.

CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH

Learn to speak Spanish! It’s a beautiful, but complicated language. Spanish is spoken by approximately 380 million people on this planet. That means that about 6% of the world’s population speaks Spanish.  

WOMEN & BOOKS
Learn about and explore the world of women’s literature in this discussion of the role of women in writing and reading from a retired librarian. Please register in advance.

The Library contains a number of large print books, audiotapes, and videocassettes that can be checked out by our members for free. Open Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
